Trimester 2: Introduction
Well, here we are, Trimester 2 already! A few weeks of holidays over and we are launching straight into the new terms work. This term will be a little shorter but, there will be plenty of opportunities to practice and improve your English. In a few weeks time your last year of school will be nearly over!
Time flies...so fast, but here in Sila the past meets the present. Traditions and culture are pearls to be cherished and passed to the next generation.
Okay,time to begin. Let's get started!
Firstly, here is an overview to help you understand what we will be doing.
1) CEPA- Practice Tests to begin from January 11/2016.
We have 8 more weeks of practice tests to complete. (There are also a few in Trimester 3.)
2) On Location- Chapter 3: Ancient Worlds
Chapter 4:Who's Smarter... Cats or Dogs?
3) Genre: Non-Fiction
4) Text Types- a) Compare and Contrast. Focus: Discussion/Expositions, Critical
Response (Verbal and Written).
b) Information Texts. Focus:Reports/Editorials
c) Opinion Texts. Focus: Reviews, Documentaries, Myths &
Legends. (A variety of visual and aural texts.)
5) Tasks: 1)The UAE, Ancient and Modern World Comparison (Exposition)
2) A comparison of two Ancient Civilizations (Exposition).
3) a) A report of something that relates to the civilization that you have studied.
b)Link this and use this as evidence to respond to one of three focus questions.
4) A report of a subject (example: iconic buildings) and the differences
/changes that have occured from ancient to modern times.
You are also required to complete ALL tasks/classwork that is linked to the work sheets that you are given. These will help to develop your understanding and to give you ideas.
To add to your understanding the Scope and Sequence document that is printed and in our classroom is attached. Remember, having a clear understanding of what you are doing and why, will help you to attain your goals.
