Grammar and Language Structure

Grammar is the set of rules that explains the language is composed and used. When words are used together, according to a set of rules, they create meaning. The trick is to learn, practice and understand how letters and sounds are blended in the English Language to create meaning.

The sub-pages on this site provide documents and links to documents and sites where you can practice and improve your English language abilities.

Structure: Language and texts use structure to organise and to help information make sense. When sounds, words and information are structured effectively it creates meaningful communication. The structure of language and 'the way it is put together' also conveys purpose. Every text has and uses a specific structure, for a specfic reason to help you understand something.

Texts are of specific types: aural, written, visual. Each text uses language techniques (aural, written, visual and, or a combination of these). Understanding and learning how to identify the structure of texts and how they use techniques is a  strategy that will help you to understand how a text  presents information. For example specific ideas and related details; a cause and then its effects; and/or different views of a topic.

On the right of this page are scaffolds that will help you to organize your ideas. Aspects of all of these will be utilised in class. The UCHSK Scaffolds are available to be used in class.

The final sub-page on this site will be continuously be updated with specific content (lessons) that will be covered in class during the year.
