Week 8 & 9

Week 8:

Due on Sunday: Presentation Plan.

Due Thursday: Curriculum Vitae

CEPA:

This week we continue what we began at the end of Week 7 and focus on developing the student's ability to describe what they see. (Grammar links are on the grammar pages). We started indirectly, next we learn how to take the first ideas about what you see to develop clear descriptive sentences and paragraphs.

PDF's: Level 1 is always more difficult. Level 3 is easier. No Level = for everyone.

Tasks:

Students will also focus on learning how to develop their Curriculum Vitae's. The documents on the left will be used to scaffold student understanding. I will also show students my own CV and demonstrate how to write theirs in class.

A hard copy of the CV Scaffold was given as a take home for students who want to 'get ahead'.

Grammar Focus: (See Grammar Page)

1. This and That (singular)

2. These and Those (plural)

Week 9:

Due on Sunday: Curriculum Vitae

Due to Teacher illness this week has been a little slow to start. Resources used to develop student uderstanding are, however, attached. :)

Due Monday Week 10: Job Applications/University Application Form/Letter

Due Monday Week 10: Advice Presentations to begin.

Wednesday:

This lesson focus on organisation and making sure that all students have completed all the bookwork, drafts and tasks. Students handed in their CV's for correction and must have everything up-to-date by tomorrow. Non compliance will be recorded. Time for student teacher conferences will be organised for Thursday/Sunday, prior to presentations beginning.

Thirdly, we reviewed what a C.V is and what the purpose of a C.V is through questioning and class discussion. This indirectly linked text type, format, structure, technique and purpose to what we have learnt and to the next task. The teacher's purpose: to develop student understanding of information texts and how they vary, in terms of format, structure, technique and content but, are similar because their main purpose is to teach or convey specific subject matter.

This then linked to the next example of an information text that we looked at which is meant to stimulate students approach to both career and job choices.

Students were asked to write a one paragraph reflection on what they viewed and what was discussed in class.

The first Job application Handout (Pdf.attached above) was also distributed.

Thursday:

Today we focused on two things:

a) Present simple/Present Continuous

b) Continuing to develop student understanding of Job Applications. The first worksheet requries students to skim/skan an information text and to look for specific details to fill-in a form. Actually not as simple as you might think but, easy if you are listening and begin to develop an understanding.

12S have completed the first Task and their homework is to fill-in the same form with their own details.

Below is the website with clear information about how to write a personal statement for a University in the United Kingdom. Please note that writing a personal statement is done when you apply to study at a specific university. It is important to understand, however, that every university has different expectations of what your personal statement should contain. You should read carefully the application requirements/notes prior to sitting down to write.
