Week 2
Today began solemly, with a reminder of expectations and responsibilities but, then we launched into the week with a quick review. At least, we tried. 12A had quite a few interruptions but, we began nonetheless.

Activity 1 is completing the Developing Understanding Worksheet. Students also completed a Grammar worksheet on Questions to refresh and develop their understanding. This task will be completed in the second period on Monday. (On the Grammar Lesson page).

All students have completed a past CEPA test to compare their current levels. The test consists of 3 parts: Vocabulary, Grammar and a Reading Comprehension. This test will be used as a benchmark to guage how much you improve prior to your first CEPA test in Ruwais. It will also compare non-Emiratis English skills and abilities. Feedback was given to students to support and encourage their learning and ability to remain on task.

A handout was given explaining what the Exam will consist of.

Vocabulary: the final words related to theme will be taught. Students should review ALL vocabulary for the Trimester and do their best to practice and learn as many new words as they can. Try to memorise two to three new words a day. You will be surprised by how many new words you can remember by the end of the Trimester.

Grammar Lesson: To improve and develop student understanding of how to form simple questions, with and without question words. Board work and discussion of: Present Simple-defnition-subject/person-definition-agreement (verb to do used as an example), Present simple questions (verb to do used as an example), Present Simple Continuous-defnition-subject/person-definition-agreement (verb to do used as an example), Present Simple Continuous Questions (verb to do used as an example). Student to review this using online games and Cambridge Intermediate Grammar p14-20 of the pdf./Chapters 1-4 (We will look at Chapter 3 in class.)

On Location (Workbook) p6 and p7 Texts and Activities. Whole class Reading/Vocabulary Work (Definitions for homework). This will lead to you writing an Advice Text. Afra I will send you an image of the pages.Classes wrote sentence summaries, paragraph summaries and recounts of the 3 texts on these pages. 12S/A/B approached these texts differently, depending upon skill levels.

Grammar Revision: We did some more work on the present tense, present continuous and collocations of the verb to do, including some other irregular verbs that are commonly used. Futher revision of simple sentences and subject agreement was also done. (The worksheet can be found on the Grammar lessons page.)

Theme: Job Descriptions articles (a/an) & occupations - Class differentiation/vocabulary development. This will link to identifying and understanding more about specific jobs and, the skills and knowledge required to do them.
