Week 4 & 5
Week 4:
1) We reviewed ought looking at ought to have... to make the use of this expression clearer.
2) On Location: Advice texts and Grammar exercises
Eid Week: This week was short and, the amount of content that we got through was even less. The week was only 3 days aSs, Wednesday and Thursday were public holidays.
On Sunday, quite a number of students from 12A & 12B were absent and, as the day pettered on, more students left. However, the Grammar exercises were, at least completed as, well as theme associative grammar excercises in the On Location Workbook & Practice Book.
On the Monday and Tuesday, however, there were consequtively fewer students...a grand total of 5 that, diminished to 3 on Tuesday afternoon. Needless to say, lesson content was adapted and as most students had not completed their Job Description task, we concentrated on completing this task using the scaffolds and peer/teacher assistance as required.
12S is, comparatively, surging ahead. Most students attended each period, although, as normal, there was some upheval! This week we focused on supporting student understanding through Grammar. The Present Simple Worksheet 2 has been corrected as have excersises in the On Location Workbook & Practice Book. Students have completed up until p9 in the Practice Book and summaries (or, topic sentences, depending on ability) of the advice texts has been set for homework. Students need to also come up with some ideas relating to the next task, the Advice Letter, reflective of their chosen question.
The focus for Week 5: Advice Texts. Task: Advice Letter
Week 5:
Again, this was an odd week. On sunday, many were absent and with exams happening in other subject areas, students were tired and distracted. Never-the-less, we did complete some content and, student understanding seems to be steadily developing.
Grammar: This week we focused on subject, objective and possessive pronouns. (See Grammar Lessons).
On Location: Advice texts and Grammar exercises: 12A&B have completed summaries (sentence and paragraph) until end, Cramming 101.
Job Description Task: All students should have completed this.
In class: A short review to ensure understanding and to allow students to edit their texts. Focus: Vocabulary, sentence/paragraph structure.
Job Description scaffolds: Note the missing words are not attached.
Advice Letter Task: We completed a group/whole-class activity where students wrote down ideas that related to each of the advice topics. 12A &S have completed this. Students are in the process of presenting their ideas then we will create a class scaffold to help them writ their advice letters.
Note: All of the more able students have already completed their letters.
IELTS: General information has been given to the students. Exercises from Unit 5, that relate to this Trimester's theme has also been given to students in 12S.
