Weeks 10 - 13

Overview

Well the last few weeks have gone quickly. Our focus has been completing tasks, presentations and preparing for the Ministry of Education Exams in a few weeks time.

As such, new course work has been limited to revision the theme covered through student presentations and reflection tasks. Emphasis has, as always focused on developing student understanding of the related vocabulary and upon writing clear paragraphs that demonstrate comprehension, a cohesive structure and the linking of ideas.

The example scaffold that students in 12A&B classes have completed using group worksheets and sticky notes is below.

Chapter 1:

Focused on Advice Texts

Chapter 2:

Focused on

Information/Expository Texts.

The theme that it uses to develop student understanding is animals.

Students have begun to look at p28-30. Each class has approached this differently- the main objective is to develop student understanding of the text type and structure. Students will develop recount of one text that will demonstrate their understanding of the text type. Associative grammar exercises have also been done, aiming at developing student ability to use figurative/descriptive language using cohesive sentences.

Additional Exercise:

Students critically examine an information text to develop a deeper understanding of its structure and features. Students will then develop their own, reflective of the Emirati Identity. (This activity links with inoovation & creativity and National Day Activities.
