Week 6 & 7
Completed Task: Job Description
Last Due Date- Monday, Week 7: Advice Letter
Week 6:
1)Advice Letter Task:The aim this week was to develop and improve student understanding of advice texts and how to write them, reflective of the theme and in-class tasks. A series of scaffolds were used to enable student understanding and to help them write clear texts, using format and structure of a letter.
Students worked together to list ideas that were linked to Advice Letter topics. Each idea was then corrected and expanded on through class discussion. The extended responses were then written on the whiteboard to give students a set of ideas from which to develop their paragraphs. Students were required to submit a plan of their letters, prior to beginning writing.
Two scaffolds have been used to explain how to write an advice letter. The document beside the topics doc. was designed to clarify what they need to to.
2) The Advice Letter that they write is linked to their Presentations that will occur in Week 10. Students have not been given these as handouts as we have a 'paper' problem at school. Both documents are attached above.
The images below are of the ideas that the students constructed as a class.
3)Next, too further add to student understanding we did differentiated comprehesion activities. Adec resources: Advice Letter. (Attached.) These worksheets were completed in pairs/groups and corrected as a class activity.
4) ALL STUDENTS should now have completed their Advice letters. Final due date is Sunday.
On Location (Practice & Workbook Activities) should have been completed up until p10 in the Practice Book and p15 in the Workbook.
Activities have been completed in class and set for homework.

Week 7
Well this past week seems to have flown by! A short week, with Thursday being a holiday, most students are doing well.
Our focus this week has been on developing students understanding of the Simple Past and Irregular verbs, as well as making sure everyone has completed their final draft of the Advice Letters.
The girls are improving in terms of their grammar and agreement but, need continued revision of the irregular participles.
CEPA: Describing visuals
(Links to Creativity/Advice/Careers and Future Choices)
Students have begun an analysis of two visual texts. Students analysed the texts as indvibdual entities and in a comparative analysis(link to Trimester 2). Each class has approached this slightly differently.
The texts will be used, more specifically, as a method to teach descriptive writing (CEPA) and to further develop student understandings of text types and the depth of the variety of text types, structure and formats that can be used to reflect theme.
Students were also required to respond to the texts individually, using the following questions to develop their understanding.
