Week 3

Grammar

On Sunday, we reviewed the verbs to be and to do in the Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses and, then added the verb to go.

On Monday we corrected the Present simple worksheet in class to develop student understanding. The verb can was explained. A worksheet on word order (see grammar page) was explained and given for homework.

On Tuesday  to make and to play (comparitive review and regular verbs). 12A completed a simple sentence construction activity for a warm up.

On Wednesday: Revision (worksheet correction and a game). Simple Present Worksheet 2 was given for homework-due on Sunday.

On Thursday: Revision. Ought, should & must. (Cambridge Elementary/Intermediate Ch 33).

Theme: Job Descriptions

As a whole class we compiled a list of occupations. In pairs and groups of three we next created charts. Each chart identified an occupation. Students then divided the pages into two columns and wrote: I can (skills) and, I know (knowledge). The activity was explained using A Teacher as an example. Students then wrote for 5 minutes and passed their page to another group. In this way, everyone was sharing their ideas.  (Some examples are on this page.)

This activity was effective with 12S, 12A/B were slower at contributing ideas and, were reluctant to share them. All classes have now copied and discussed a scaffold  (see attached image). 12S have completing an example of a Job Description for homework and will edit and improve them in class this week.

12B Wrote paragraphs about their dream job, reflective of the scaffold. Further explaination was given to clarify a few points in relation to the task. Note that a Job Description is an information text.12A need to yet complete their charts.

To develop students understanding and, with an awareness that each student has a different level of understanding, I developed another scaffold to assist students complete the task. (Attached to the left.) Job Descriptions for all students should be completed by Sunday. Many have already done this.
